Would This “Wake Up” a Drug Addict?

Question by Dalias: Would this “wake up” a drug addict?
Haven’t seen my dad for 7 years and recently found out he’s addicted to cocaine. He’s in his late 40s so people at that age are set in their ways, can’t change so I’ve heard. I’ve put some thought into threatening to not let him see his future grandchildren since I’m his only kid and only one who can continue on his bloodline, but I’m not sure if that will work. I’ve also thought about seeing him somewhere and having a needle filled with coke on me. Once I talk with him and if he doesn’t budge, I’ll pull out the needle and shoot myself up with it right in front of him and give him a first glance look at what that shit does to you, as you don’t see yourself as that when you shoot up. He knows he looks terrible as he told my mom he didn’t want me to see him like that, and I bet it’d nearly kill him inside knowing I shoot myself up with coke.

I would of course arrange a meeting with a rehab person before hand to get us BOTH into it so I can make sure he stays off it and I don’t get addicted to it what so ever.

I know it might seem to far to go, shooting myself up with coke, but I’m pretty sure it’s the only way to get my father back, which I desperately want. I’m not just going to sit by and let him waste away on the streets while I sit here doing nothing.

I think its a good idea about threatening your father not to let him see your children but you have to open up your heart to him and let him see how hurt you are so he can feel bad and would want to help him self to by stopping his addiction and putting him on rehab but by you threatening him by doing it to your self i dont think its a good idea.

Shooting yourself up, trust me won’t do anything. He’ll feel bad, guilty and beat himself up at first and then he’ll turn to the one crutch he’s been using to take the pain away. Cocaine. The only way people like that change is when they decide they want to change and they want help. They can’t fake it either. You can try an intervention and getting him into rehab and maybe he’ll want to strive to do it knowing his grandchildren can’t and won’t be around that. I wish you goodluck hun.
